Discovery
21.08.2015 by mafstew

I just discovered this (aleximythia and this forum) after reading a news article. I guess its nice to finally have a word to describe something that has been problematic my entire life. I failed to create lasting friendships all through my school years, and even university. I've adapted, and learned to emulate emotional expressions and empathy as an adult, but I'm not quite there. My only friend that has remained with me since childhood should probably have a look at this too.

The only feeling I have that is clear to my is the love and desire to protect my child, aged three. Everything else tends to be qualified and confusing.

It goes without saying that I'm really not quite sure how to feel about this new discovery. It's nice that I can say that here and expect that it will be widely understood.

I know, it's different for all of us...

Lacking friends doesn't bother me, but...

I don't form the relationships at work that seem to be vital for holding down a job. Mafstew, do you find your Alexithymia affects you at work, too?

My friends come and go, I'm used to it.

I have friends for awhile, then things change, and the friendships fade, I guess I'm used to it, and don't give it much thought.
