Dermatillomania(Skin Picking) & Alexithymia

Before, I recognize that I am alexithmic, approximately one year ego, I was sure that I have dermatillomania since I was child and this is obvious that these two are very convenient with each other. You may find much information on the net. One of them is following.
http://www.trich.org/about/skin-causes.html

"Skin picking may also serve as an emotional outlet for some people. Repetitive skin picking appears to be a way for some people to increase their activity levels when they are bored, or to control their emotions when they are feeling anxious, tense or upset. The fact that some individuals can actually regulate their emotions by picking their skin may be why they develop this problem in the first place."

Maybe someone else has skin picking and do not know its name or know.. does not matter? Any one else?

Strange outlets

I believe I fall into this category, although I've been denying it.

In 2006, my favorite grandmother passed away. I remember not grieving, exactly. I cried for a few minutes when my father told me on the phone and during our trip to her home for the funeral I remember not being sad.... but I started pulling my body hair out with tweezers. This habit persisted and evolved into skin picking to the point of lesions and infection. I did this for at least 2-3 years and it got bad. I think the only reason I stopped was because people were starting to notice. I'm not sure why I don't do it anymore, but I've stopped completely.

I have committed other forms of self-harm, however. Sometimes, when I'm depressed its like a valve opens and pure negative emotion comes pouring out and I can't stop it. These emotions have no name, no logic, no sense... they just are and its torture. For a long time I was cutting my skin to make it stop. I figured out I could get my brain to release chemicals to calm myself. I no longer do this either. I know it is an accomplishment to resist this urge. Its so ugly and makes me ugly. I now use breathing techniques and it is fairly effective.

read it, hmmm......

I read it.....

I have picked at scabs, but I don't have a lot of scarring.

I used to pick at pimples. I picked at blackheads. I currently bite my cuticles, but it starts as... one gets dry, I pick at it, then chew it off......

really disturbing for me

I have suffered from this start from my childhood. When I was child I was applying this to my scalp so people do not see them. But, after the time of puberty I start to pick my pimples, blackheads and the result of them, scabs... Since people recognize it and it is possible to spend 2-3 hours by doing this(I am not able to stop myself) it was so annoying. Also, I feel really guilty after doing this. For 9 months I am using a medicine which is very effective for skin so, I do not have scabs and pimples. 3 months later, I have to give up using it and do not what to do.
