I heard about alexithymia in late 2014 (Dr. Drew speaking on the WTF? podcast) and it sounded way, way too familiar to me. I pulled it up on my computer to read more and it was seriously hitting home. I took the alexithymia test on this site and scored a 134.

I spent the first half of 2015 in therapy, the psychologist determined I was suffering for years with chronic subclinical depression. Essentially I have kinda bad days every single day. Alexithymia, he told me, is a feature or manifestation of my depression and probably not a permanent brain state. I'm not so sure. I have yet to take any medication for depression the past 18 months of my life have been nearly unmanageable for a myriad of reasons. Moving on.

I'm not just emotionally blind, however. The more time I've spent thinking about things and researching, a few years ago I figured out that I had prosopagnosia (faceblind) and more recently the other issue is aphantasia (blind in the mind's eye).
